Shenzhen

Shenzhen, located in southern China's Guangdong Province directly north of Hong Kong, operates on China Standard Time (CST, UTC+8) year-round. China does not observe daylight saving time, so the clock never changes — CST applies every day of the year. With a population of over 17 million, Shenzhen is one of China's largest cities and one of the fastest-growing urban areas in recorded history. Founded as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in 1980, Shenzhen transformed from a small fishing village into a global technology powerhouse in just four decades. The city is often called the 'Silicon Valley of China' or the 'Silicon Valley of Hardware' and is home to the headquarters of Huawei, Tencent, BYD, DJI, and ZTE, among many others. Shenzhen's Foxconn campus assembles a significant portion of the world's consumer electronics. Huaqiangbei, a sprawling electronics market district in Shenzhen, is widely regarded as the world's largest electronics retail hub. Engineers, entrepreneurs, and product designers from around the globe travel to Shenzhen to source components, prototype hardware, and manufacture at scale. This 'maker culture' has become one of the city's defining characteristics. Because Shenzhen and Beijing share the same time zone, coordinating across China presents no offset challenges. When it is noon in Shenzhen, it is 04:00 in London, 07:00 in Istanbul, midnight in New York (previous day), and 13:00 in Tokyo. The 8-hour lead over UTC makes Shenzhen business contacts effectively eight hours ahead of most European schedules.
